A painting friend introduced me to an art class at Risingholme about 6 years ago. She and I have both had quite a long experience of painting, but need our Risingholme class.
It's tutored by John Evans, and it ensures we can keep painting, given also the congenial and supportive environment, the creative stimulus offered by the tutor, and working with others who are like-minded.
Risingholme also offers us a twice-yearly Saturday art workshop, when the flow of work and continuity can result in quite dramatic results in awareness, inventiveness etc. The encouraging and "permissive" approach to art is provided by the same tutor, John Evans.
Risingholme is set in a lovely park-like garden, with its own ambience of earlier days. Classes are very well organised and publicised. Our class attracts
students of all ages, and a variety of cultural backgrounds which all adds to the character of the group.
Every two or three years, an exhibition is organised of the best work from each of the classes - a real Community event, using all the main rooms in the house and the hall and pottery and woodwork rooms. It is impressive!
What a tragedy for the community if and when this all collapses for lack of Government funding! We need our community classes.
