A new Labour electorate branch is in the process of being established. It's for the people of Sydenham, Waltham, Addington and Beckenham. Given the names of these suburbs, the 'working title' of the branch has been SWAB!
Some people feel that is too weird, so we may go with South Christchurch or something mainstream like that. But of course suggestions are still welcome for the name. If you live in this area of the electorate, and want to be involved, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
As it is a new branch, procedures and meetings and so on haven't been set in stone yet. If you have any bright ideas about how a branch should be run, what it should do to get in touch with it's members, sympathisers and other people in the community, then don't be a stranger. Come along and meet us!
The area has strong working class roots, and so therefore also has strong Labour party history. Due to boundary changes and Jim Anderton's defection, there hasn't really been much of a Labour party presence in the region for the last decade or two. Now is the time for us to remedy that, with some new people and new ideas. We would be very grateful to hear from you about the branch. Send an email to james.dann at gmail.com.
